007 – Is Supplementing Necessary

Hey guys, it’s Dr. Kelly. And today I’m going to be discussing with you. The very topic of is supplementing actually necessary.

Alright, let’s get started. All right. So supplementing. Is it necessary very easy answer. Yes, but let’s talk about the why behind that so nowadays compared to 30 years ago. Definitely 50 years ago. Everything has changed. Our environment has become much more complicated. In fact researchers that are saying that we’re actually mismatched for the environment that we’re living in today part of the reason being is we’ve got nutrient depleted soils, which.

These are foods that we are growing have far less nutrient density to them plus when we’re planting hybridized crops. They produce more yield per plant. So they produce more of their produce per seed that is planted, but they only have so many nutrients to give so when you’re spreading those nutrients amongst more.

More vegetables those vegetables and fruit that you’re actually growing are going to have less nutrient density than those non high yields crops that we could be planting also genetics. We are planting a lot more genetically altered Foods as well. And those are playing into this issue. We also gosh have an abundance of medication use that gets into our water.

It’s not like our filtration systems are not strong enough to filter all of that out. So antibiotics birth control antipsychotic drugs chemotherapy drug remnants, all of those things are being found in our waters, which our bodies having to try to detox out of our systems in addition to everything else that were being exposed to in our environment which is becoming more and more toxic as the time goes on.

We also have more electric magnetic frequency that we are being exposed to with the amazing crazy world of exploding technology. And that is something that our body is interacting with that 30 years ago compared to now was Far reduced much less alone 50 years ago. So these are just some of the factors that were dealing with now that increase the stress and demand on our bodies.

It is stated that we have more nutrient demand being placed on our bodies than what we did even 30 years ago. So this is part of where that concept of us being mismatched with our environment comes from. We can’t get enough out of our diets, you know, the lifestyles that were living to help us Thrive and live in the environment that we are in right now.

So that’s where that answer yes comes from now to go back and say like I am a huge advocate for getting as many nutrients as you can out of your diet, but we also know that it is impossible for any of us to have the perfect diet that would be meaning that you’re eating, you know, a ver wide variety of foods.

Produce specially to make sure you’re getting all the different kinds of phytonutrients and that you’re consuming enough of them so that the amount that you’re actually needing is enough. It’s near impossible you add to that that people just really aren’t cooking anymore and relying more on convenience Foods, prepackaged Foods, you know, the refined Foods fast foods.

Eating out far more people don’t even know how to cook anymore, which was a shock to me because that’s all that we really do in our family. It’s a rarity for us to actually go out. So as such that also increases the reasoning as to why there are just certain nutrients we can’t get enough out of our diet, especially if you’re not consuming.

A higher quality cleaner food more organic non-GMO type of a diet. If you’re definitely if you’re consuming the standard American diet, you are missing a lots of nutrients. So the ideal is yes get as much as you can out of your food, but ultimately, To get all of it is impossible because the foods that we have now don’t have the nutrient density and then again our bodies are requiring more nutrients than what we did 30 50 years ago so that’s the short end of it also what I can tell you based off of what I see because we do clinical nutrition in our office I have comprehensive lab analysis that I run on my patient so I can know more specifically where are they at what’s going on with them if there are any markers that are coming back outside of the.

Healthy range and definitely outside of that clinical range. Then what I know is there are areas of their body that you could say are struggling or their imbalanced or a different way to look at that is that it’s they’re sick. I don’t care how perfect your diet is but when the body is showing its imbalanced you can’t get enough of certain nutrients out of your diet.

So to help the body have the ability to heal itself, which is fully capable of there are certain nutrients. It’s going to need and hi. Quantities in order to help that get back on track. So some of the coordinates variants and that I find come up very commonly anymore today and it’s been in the research as well would be vitamin D everybody that I test unless they’re already currently taking vitamin D seems to be deficient in it.

Now before you just start taking vitamin D. I do suggest that you know what your number is because it is one of our fat-soluble vitamins. So if we have way too much vitamin D in our system it can cause toxicity issues because. Body can’t just excrete it out. Like the water soluble vitamins like your B vitamins.

So vitamin D is a big one just a good multivitamin is helpful because. Because none of us have perfect diets. It’s kind of like a good form of Wellness Insurance to help fill in the holes of the nutrients that you are missing in your diet. And I guarantee you you are so adding that in is very key.

The number one nutrient deficiency in Americans adult specifically is magnesium in kiddos is iron. I’m not entirely sure why but that’s what his been stated to me based off of clinical nutrition courses that I continue to take so magnesium. Is very difficult to get enough of that out of our diet as well.

Clearly. It’s the number one deficiency. So if you love oysters great nutrient-dense source of magnesium, if you’re not a fan of oysters, you can get a fair amount of them out of the raw pepitas or also fancy word for pumpkins. Your dark green leafy vegetables your avocado good sources as well. But you still are going to need to increase the amount of magnesium that you’re consuming.

So it’s easy just to add that in now. Just a side note not all forms of magnesium are created equally there are certain magnesium’s that are very readily available because they’re cheap, but they are also the magnesiums that if you consume and high enough amounts, it’s going to have a laxative effect.

They are natural laxatives. So make sure you know, which form of magnesium you’re putting into your system the easiest way to know if you’re getting too much. At a time is you could have some issues with your bowels. So back off a little bit spread out the dosing and see if your body handles higher dosing in that front fashion.

I will be doing a whole entire show on magnesium and the importance of it the signs and symptoms of deficiencies. What forms in my talking about specifically, so make sure you stay tuned for that because that will be coming up soon. So vitamin D a multivitamin magnesium, I throw in probiotics also because I mean.

Her is not. Many people in this country who do not have got issues and eating enough yogurt to get the right amount of probiotics in your system is really kind of asinine and you end up consuming way too much sugar, which kills all the good guys and fees the bad guys. So it’s easier just to put in a probiotic in there as well and then eat foods that are going to help feed those guys.

That’s where the fermented foods come in and the kombucha and so on so magnesium vitamin D a multivitamin your probiotics. And then the other key player is enough omega-3 fatty acids. Those are most commonly known as fish oils. But for those of you who do not consume fish or you have a fish fish allergy.

We’re talking also about your flax seed oil or they have omega-3s that come from algae as well. So plant-based if you are a vegan or vegetarian for that matter, so there are ways that you can get enough of Mega threes. I do specific testing of Omega-3s and compare it to the ratio with Omega sixes.

There’s not one person who’s come back and ideal range is either part of this is we are Overexposed to Omega sixes, which are going to create inflammation in our body and we are under exposed to Omega-3s. That’s what salmon is most commonly known for so if your understanding the fish oil in the salmon that you cannot eat enough salmon to get enough Omega-3s on a regular basis and I wouldn’t suggest doing that right now either because there’s a lot of different things and fish that could accumulate in the.

Some as well known as toxins, so. Just supplementing with a clean fish oil or an algae or flaxseed oil would be very conducive for helping bolster that and it’s a critical nutrient for so many different things in our body. So you want to make sure that you’re getting that in also side note on that grass fed beef if it’s grass-fed grass-finished.

It has the same Omega ratio that salmon does. So if you’re not a fan of salmon just make sure if you’re going to consume red meat instead that it’s of the grass-fed grass-finished variety. Otherwise forget the red meat. It won’t do you any good? If it’s grain-fed bad idea bad idea if I were to throw in a six nutrient for you, the last one would be tumeric.

The active ingredient of turmeric is curcumin majority of people walking around in America right now are inflamed. So that is one of the best benefits of curcumin or turmeric as well as that it’s an anti-inflammatory. But if you really want to get after what’s causing the problem, you might want to at least first look at your diet.

If you’re consuming lots of carbohydrates, probably creating a lot of inflammation and carbohydrates are not just sugars. We’re talking grains. We’re talking way too many fruits and then of course sugars artificial sweeteners your body treats the same way and you’ll find a lot of this in your package your previous prepackaged your process your.

Foods eating out. There are all kinds of different things that you’re being exposed to that are going to cause inflammation in your system. So just a quick recap. Yes, you need to supplement. We cannot get all of our nutrients out of our diets anymore. And I’m sorry, but nobody is completely perfect we strive for that but that’s not ideal either.

So I tell my patients like just be as best as you can eighty to ninety percent of the time the body can handle the tone 10 to 20% and then make sure you’re including in at least these particular. France or if you want to be more scientific stop guessing and actually tests what we do in our office with Comprehensive lab analysis to see exactly where are the holes in your system add those nutrients and retest down the road take out whatever.

You don’t need to be consuming anymore in the form of supplements because the body’s healed itself only be taking what your body needs at the time that it’s needing it. So just that recap list. If you don’t have the ability to test which you can you can just contact me we can do. From afar. You do not have to be in Colorado.

So that’s helpful. If people all over the US that we do this with thank you technology and that regard so recap list vitamin D magnesium omega-3 fatty acids, your multivitamin and a good probiotic and if we wanted an extra bonus in there, that’s the curcumin or more commonly known as turmeric and that will help you at least have a better foundation so that your body has a fighting chance to be healthy for the rest of your life.  I appreciate you guys. And we’ll talk to you again. See you soon.
