004 – Essential vs Nonessential
Hey guys, it’s Dr. Kelly. And today I’m going to be talking to you about the differences between essential and non-essential tissues. And what in the world does that actually mean stay tuned.

Alright, let’s get started. Okay. So what in the world am I actually talking about when I’m saying non-essential versus essential tissues and how is that even relevant to you and your health and like what does that even mean Kelly? Well hold that thought for just a second. Let me give you a little story to try to help paint a clear picture of what it is that I am talking about.
So there’s this guy he had chronic neck issues for years like as long as the man could remember he had had neck. Saints neck pain and it was becoming debilitating. He’s very frustrated by the time he came in to see us in the services that we offer. He had already seen six other chiropractors and he’d been doing PT and massage acupuncture lean.
You name it the man had tried it and did all the medical things as well. Nothing was helping him. Like is this what he was destined for the rest of his life. No, wait that does not fly in this office whatsoever. But for those of you who don’t know by the way, I am a chiropractor. Dr. Of causes what I like to say, but with being a chiropractor clearly people come to see me when they have aches and pains and things are not moving the way that they should so do you think it would be a really good idea for me to continue to treat him through Just Chiropractic?
I mean, I will have to say I do think I do a very decent job. I’m good chiropractor. I’ve been in practice since 2015. I’m constantly refining my skills and going to more continuing education working on technique. I’m an instructor. Or the Activator Method of technique that I actually utilize predominantly in this office.
We have a whole other slew of techniques that we do in the office as well for our musculoskeletal complaints to including muscle activation technique, which is very very therapeutic and corrective and a whole bunch of other things. But who am I to say that I’m any better than the people he had seen before me.
That’s just crazy. I mean maybe to some degree. Yes, but am I the absolute world’s best? I kind of doubt that I think there’s not just one best chiropractor out there. So should I approach this guy is issue the same way that everybody has before him or before me with him. Is that going to make any Headway?
No, probably not. I mean that isn’t that the definition of insanity right there continuing to do the same thing over and over again and expecting to find your get different results. So thankfully I am not just straight Chiropractic in this office. We do all kinds of comprehensive lab analysis and cardiovascular risk assessment testing.
You name it. We’re looking at it. I it’s full whole body Wellness at this clinic. So the cool thing about this is as I get to be a detective and I. To go. Well beyond the scope of just musculoskeletal complaints I get to Deep dive in and see what is actually going on with this man. Well, we ran a comprehensive lab analysis on him hit been a long time since he had a blood work and shocking.
He had outrageous numbers that came back sky high levels of cholesterol and inflammation like ticking Time Bomb heart attack potentially waiting to happen here. And you guys heart attack is the first sign symptom of heart disease. So he had gone undiagnosed. He felt fine. He didn’t have any shortness of breath or like elephant sitting on his chest like he had an experienced any of those symptoms.
Yet but what he was having was these major issues with his neck now, for those of you don’t know there’s like a hundred thirty different registered techniques of Chiropractic. He would probably not be the best candidate for you to be doing a rotary break on which means the lovely popping kind of crack because we know when there’s that amount of issue going on in the cardiovascular system that amount of potential plaquing that’s there and inflammation which is.
Actually a better predictor of heart disease than cholesterol is by the way just throwing this out there only 50 percent of people who have heart attack actually have abnormal cholesterol levels, which means 50% of people who have heart attacks actually have normal cholesterol level so cholesterol is a crummy indicator, but this man had all other kinds of signs going on that his body was in near freakout mode like Crisis underneath but no signs of that actually showing yet.
So with the kind of Chiropractic that I do activator, he’s face down the entire time, but we did not do that. That would be a much safer approach for somebody. Who is that potentially vulnerable? I don’t know if you’ve heard but there have been in issues and incidences of stroke related to Chiropractic.
Now, this is the type of patient that is probably occurred on or somebody even in a worse worst state what happens when there is potential vertebral artery insufficiency, which is one of the arteries that runs up into the brain and you put somebody in a compromised position, which is generally head back with some rotation.
You can include that artery meaning you can actually close it down and that really only happens. Super inflamed and there’s already a bunch of plaquing that’s there. So not a great candidate for that type of Chiropractic. But also that could actually happen when he’s at a hairstylist and getting his hair washed in the sink head back or get this just for packing.
It won’t just backing out of his driveway looking over his head trying to check for traffic. He is a ticking Time Bomb. So we’re not doing that instead. We’re going to evaluate him and treat him. From a comprehensive lab analysis standpoint guess what else was like screaming? Hi in this man’s blood work.
There’s a marker known as creatine kinase now creatine kinase only shows when there’s immense amounts of muscle breakdown in the body. This is not specific to just skeletal muscle, but it can also be a sign that cardiac muscle is actually being broken down now, he wasn’t one who was working out on a regular basis.
So guess what I assumed it. Cardiac muscle now we can change all of this but it requires some work. So point being he had neck issues that were going on. His body’s breaking down tissues because of other nutrients and balances and efficiencies and even potentially underlying toxicities in his system.
Do you think that maybe what showed up in his blood work might be the reason why his body is giving him these neck complaints and why? Furthermore why the biomechanical approach to neck pain wasn’t working for him. It was not where the cause of his problem was folks. So this brings us to the non-essential versus the essential tissues.
So to break it down for you the body will break down muscle and other nutrients within its tissues or will say other tissues to free up nutrients rather. To lend them to other areas of higher priority or importance. So let me ask you a question. What do you think is more important your liver or your hair skin and nails now?
It’s not to say that we don’t want our hair to be nice in our skin to be clear and smooth and our nails to be all pretty mean we do live in a vein Society rate. But what do you think’s more important if your body had to pick one set of those tissues? Breakdown which one do you think it was? You’re right.
It’s going to break down the hair the skin and the nails. Yes, it’s nice to have them in great working order, but you can live with your hair falling out and your skin a little bit dry and rough in your nails peeling and cracking. I mean look around majority of people actually have those types of presentations with their hair skin and Nails.
Why do you think that industry is so huge about trying to fix these tissues? But what I’m telling you is maybe if you want those tissues and better working order. Maybe you should Deep dive in and see if there’s a bigger. Lying issue that’s causing the problems with those tissues. So what do you think is more important your liver or your muscles your bones your tendons or ligaments all your connective tissue your cartilage.
Now, I know we want our musculoskeletal system to be an amazing working order. That’s what allows us to get from to and from and there and anywhere else in between right like it’s what carries us. It’s our muscular. Skeleton. There are muscular system is our main protector make that’s our Shield of armor.
It’s going to react and respond to anything and everything long before it all out of these other systems actually get involved. So with that said what? Is more important your liver or your musculoskeletal system? You’re right. It’s your liver. Your liver has over 600 functions. It’s responsible for so while it’s nice to be able to move around and do it eloquently and sufficiently do you think maybe why you’re stiff in the morning or maybe why you’re not able to take a fall like you did when you were a kid you think maybe some of that is that?
System has actually been compromised because of an underlying bigger issue like maybe a livers not working or the brain or the heart the lungs. These are all higher priority tissues. Even your kidneys to are in there as well. So this is the one that trumps everybody all of the time. What do you think is more important your hormones or your liver?
I think about that for a minute. I mean everybody Under the Sun has a hormone issue anymore. It seems like I’m pretty sure if you don’t have one you definitely know at least a handful of people who have issues with their thyroid, you know, their female reproductive hormones, whether it’s infertility issues that are going through menopause and you know, everybody seems to have low testosterone anymore.
That’s a whole other. Episode just to talk about hormones. But what do you think is more important? What do you think is more of a primary issue or where the cause of a problem maybe liver or your hormones? If you pick liver you were right that one when I ask my patients, it Trump’s them all of the time, but here’s the thing.
Your body. Yes, we prefer to have our hormones being a normal functioning level life is much prettier when they are but guess what if we don’t have the right amount of nutrients coming into our system or we’re dealing with other imbalances and toxicities that’s keeping her body from being able to absorb all of our nutrients your body will sacrifice your hormones in order to free up nutrients to somewhere else.
That’s more important like the liver or your heart your kidneys. Your lungs your brain, so it kind of makes sense. So this guy who came in who had chronic like years and years and years of neck issues who had seen everybody Under the Sun and was making no Headway at all. Are you still convinced that maybe it’s his neck.
That’s the source of the problem or that maybe just maybe. There’s something else going on beneath the surface which I already told you his Labs were a hot mess. He had all kinds of issues going on in the cardiovascular system was majorly being negatively impacted. So his body was breaking down his other tissues his musculoskeletal system and everything else really that we talked about but to try to help.
Prioritize and see nutrients to A system. That was so much critical more critical for actually sustaining life. So we put him on a protocol cleaned up his diet because he was eating things. He shouldn’t be eating. They were not helping matters. You know, when you do things like this with us, it requires a lifestyle change.
This is not just a diet. This is not just do the good until everything looks well and then go back to what you were doing and expect actually. You know sustain the progress or continue the progress rather maintain the progress. That’s what I’m looking for. It’s early this morning with you guys at any rate.
You can’t do that that goes back to the definition of insanity. It’s like when people go to a gym and they’re all gung-ho and they do it phenomenal job. They get into better shape and then life happens and all of a sudden they stop. Do you really think you’re gonna maintain or keep any of the results that you had so diligently worked on all the effort and the sweat The Blood The Sweat The Tears all of the above.
Do you think you’re going to keep that if you don’t continue on that path? No, so when we work with people you have to make lifestyle changes, you have to commit to doing that if you actually want to get better. So this man did he cleaned up his diet we detox him. Through a heavy metal detoxing with the different testing that we do and all of this is very much.
So supervised by me everything is incredibly safe and non-invasive and we always continue no matter what protocol I put somebody on from a nutrition standpoint. We always retest that is where the validation comes in. I’ve got to check my work. I got to make sure you’re doing your part and once your body doesn’t need certain nutrients anymore in a higher amount then we don’t need to supplement those anymore.
But if your body shows it sick which any. You have anything come back outside of the range or you’re already on a medication to try to keep your numbers within a range. You’re sick whether you want to buy into that or not. That’s your. Well, you can make that decision. But what I’m telling you is you’re sick.
Okay, my standards are saying you’re sick and you don’t have to do that. You’re not on a. You don’t have high blood pressure because you’re deficient in a blood pressure medication. You don’t have high cholesterol because you’re deficient and Lipitor or any of the other nasty statins that nobody should ever be on crisis.
Sure. If you’re in a crisis take the medications that are going to help save your life. But once you’re back out of crisis mode, it’s time to restore your health and that doesn’t happen by staying on medication. You cannot out medicate. You cannot out even supplement. A crummy diet and a crummy lifestyle.
So if you actually want to take charge of your health and not fall into the standard of care and this is just how it’s going to be because I’m getting older and this runs in my family. So I’m doomed if you actually want to take the initiative and take charge of your health. You can control your path.
You can basically paint what your destiny looks like, but it’s going to take a little bit of work. So all of that said for. Essential versus non-essential tissues, so just to recap those non-essential tissues are the ones that our body is going to actually sacrifice when we’re not getting enough nutrients and through our diet or because there’s so many other demands being put on us that we need that many more nutrients coming in.
We have different imbalances. We have toxicities that can interfere with that. We have so many different things that these bodies are having to actually experience on a day-to-day basis in combat. On a day-to-day basis that makes it much more difficult than even 30 50 years ago for are not so distant past ancestors.
So the non-essential tissues Hair Skin and Nails musculoskeletal system. So your cartilage or connective tissues your tendons or ligaments your joints your bone your muscles and then your hormones guys, so. That being said if you have issues with any of those tissues, maybe should actually get tested and see even if you’ve already been tested from your primary care Doc and everything came back that you’re normal.
I have a whole other episode for you coming up talking about the differences of clinical ranges today versus clinical ranges, even 30 years ago and how.
